Has AI Training Made You Think You're Better Than You Are?

Generic training validated you. Now you don't know what's possible.

AI Training Confidence Bubble
Trend to Watch · Edition #26

A participant in my course rated themselves a 4 out of 5 in prompting before Day 1.

After seeing strategic prompting in action, they dropped their score to a 3.

Then gave the course a 10/10.

This one stumped me until I realized:

The course didn't make them worse at prompting.

They realized the ceiling was higher than they thought.

You probably have the same problem.

You're using AI every day and getting results.

Your org even trained you and it reinforced that you're on track.

Naturally, you think you're pretty good at this.

But that confidence is exactly what's holding you back.

If you feel like you've arrived, you stop looking for the next level.

Meanwhile, others are quietly building workflows, chaining prompts, and using structured reasoning to push AI farther than you realize.

Stuff you can't even see yet.

You can't chase what you can't see.

Here's what makes this harder:

AI models are getting dramatically better at reasoning.

Those gains only unlock if your prompting gets better too.

More structured. More intentional.

But you can't get there if you've never seen what better looks like.

Generic AI training doesn't teach that.

They give you tips, tricks, and entry-level best practices.

They don't show you how advanced users operate.

So you keep working on the surface, thinking that's all there is.

It isn't.

Learn what the next level looks like.

People in my course are building multi-step workflows, running experiments, and getting results they didn't think AI could deliver.

I didn't teach them magic tricks.

They learned that the ceiling is higher than they realized.

That's when they started growing.

You can still become an AI leader in your org.

But not if you're convinced you already know what you're doing.

The only way to level up is to be willing to see your gap first.
